STREETLETS + rooftop farming
MULTI-SERVICE CENTER FOR THE UNHOUSED
Bridging Belonging
Integrating marginalized unhoused people back into the community requires alternative approaches, services and trust. We reimagined Euclid Court, an alley sandwiched between the two largest retailers on Wilshire blvd, and pedestrianized it by creating a streetlet, providing open sites of service, such as haircutting services, mailboxes, storage lockers, food storage and access to kitchen facilities, so one without the means to store or cook their own food would have access.
We envision informational kiosks for retailers and/or street teams to provide products, assistance and resources. Thus bringing additional social and economic activity to the area. Also added are spaces for play and eating (games, tables & chairs). Engaging youth increases positivity and sense of belonging. A stairwell leads up to a roof re-imagined as a large community garden for food production.
